The Moon

One thing I have to say I really like about where I live, is I can see the stars at night. It is beautiful to say the least. No city lights to interrupt or obscure the view of the night sky. Unobstructed pure beauty. We even got a beginner's telescope this Christmas to take a gander.....when it warms up.

What is also nice, is the beautiful moon we see occasionally. Huge, and bright. This morning was one of those times. Taking the girl to the end of the road this morning to catch the bus, I saw it. I ran inside, grabbed my camera, and took some shots. Unfortunately I'm quite an amateur when it comes to my camera. I just can't seem to remember all the settings. But alas, I think I got a few cool shots.

I hope to get more pictures like this as we live here. Hopefully I'll learn how to take better pictures while I'm at it. But in the meantime, I'll just enjoy the view. A quiet minute of mother nature, where hectic life and stress doesn't exist.

Fixin' up the coop

Ok, so I think I'm going to try to do something different to help me to blog. I mean, I have sooooooo many things to blog about, but I just never get around to sitting & writing it.

Hi Jazzy! (Jasper)

Since I usually post on my facebook what I've been doing for the day, I thought instead, I'd start blogging it. OK, well my project of the day. 'Cuz this place has projects! Projects on top of projects. I have a list of projects......

So, I figure, if I do a project, I take a picture, and then I have to blog about it. But on the flip side, I thought, if I knew I had to blog later that day, that means I have to get off my arse and do a project today. See, win-win for me to get crap done. Yay!

So, today's project...

Fixing up the coop

We have a coop for our three chickens and giant rabbit. That's where they live at night. During the day they're out in the run usually if not nesting some eggs inside. The coop. Well, I think the previous owner took a shed, and made it into a coop. They had geese. Yup. Five geese living where our critters do now. How do I know? Because our neighbors down the road who live in the ranch have the geese. The geese that used to live here. Geese. What do you do with geese, anyway?

So, it's a sturdy building, but it's seen better days. I mean, sure, it's shelter for the critters, but it's......blech.

Today I decided to build the girls a roost. Hubby had nailed up a temporary perch for them when we moved in, but three big mommas up there all night....yeah, it kept falling. Poor girls. So, since the sun was shining, I built them a roost. We didn't have any long studs, so I used what I could find in the garage & made do. It's kinda short, but better than nothing! Sometimes you gotta do that when you live nowhere near a store.

Now, this coop had a 'door' to the run. It was an 18"x18" opening cut out of the wall. Yeah, pretty lame, huh.   I had temporarily made a door for them when we first moved here in order to keep out other critters....cats, coon, skunks, etc. That was made out of a dog crate door. Needless to say with the cold....I mean cold weather, we had to do something. We've had a towel covering the 'door' for a few weeks, but come on, gotta do better than that. So, while I was out there building the roost, I made an actual door. One that will keep out critters, wind & snow. Yay!


The coop needs alot more work, but that can wait until spring. For now the girls, and Jazzy are warm, comfortable, and safe.
